Introducing Jessica Evans, the fashion designer behind our first collection! Currently studying Fashion Design at South Wales University, Jessica collaborated with us to create our amazing pieces. Read about how she found the process, her future plans and her biggest influences below.

The Jessica Dress, named after her!
How did you get into fashion?
I started being interested in clothes when I was about 13 years old and I didn’t like what I could find in the high street stores. I felt it to all be quite boring and that was what started to drive me to design and make my own clothes.
What are your plans for the future?
Over the next few years I plan to finish my degree and build up a high volume of work experience before doing a Masters in either Tailoring or Costume Design.
What projects are you working on now?
I am currently working on some commissions for private clients.

As Of Us is a vintage inspired brand, how did the era influence your designs?
My research into the 1940’s and 1950’s informed me that after the war a new style was coming in called the ‘New Look’ and it was led by vogue. This was a very popular style after the masculine shapes WW2 had produced as it was more feminine and, the end of rationing brought more fabric choices and luxury back into clothing.
Describe our collaboration and your favourite part of it!
We worked together to choose the final designs and allocate the prints that would be best suited for the garments. I really enjoyed this process as I felt we both had a lot of ideas and came up with the best possible outcome together.
Why do you enjoy collaborating?
I love hearing other people’s ideas and viewpoints and I think designs can grow more naturally through collaboration and sharing ideas.
How do you want people to feel when wearing these clothes or your designs in general?
I would like them to feel proud of wearing them as they would have been specifically designed for the client along with freedom as they could fully express themselves.

Any advice for aspiring designers?
Be passionate and work very hard.
Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are probably my parents as they have always encouraged me to work really hard and go after what I want.
Who should we be following on Instagram?
